Summary

Battle cowboys, space paratroopers, and terrorists in this competitive arena-scale VR experience.
Imagine stepping into a full scale virtual arena where you can choose from being a cowboy in a western, a space paratrooper battling aliens, or special forces battling terrorists. The experience lets you move freely in the arena without any equipment other than a VR headset, and you are able to interact with other players in the experience.
Developed by VIRTUACTIONS, Cyberaction Arena is a free-roam arena-scale VR shooter which allows players to run, jump, squat, and crawl their way through a handful of virtual battlefields.
What is really cool about Cyberaction Arena is it’s mobility. Using their proprietary tracking system. VIRTUACTIONS can turn any space, such as a large gym or a vacant office, into a virtual arena. First, the team measures the size of the physical playspace and maps out a virtual arena based on the dimensions. Giant trackable QR codes are then placed on the floor, walls, and any other obstructions within the proposed play space. For a more detailed breakdown of their setup process check out the teams Instagram page.
Once the play space has been properly calibrated, two teams made up of five players each enter the virtual battlefield where they are immediately presented with a generous helping of weapons, including pistols, shotguns, machine guns, and riot shields; you can even duel-wield weapons and run in guns blazing Rambo-style.

At the moment Cyberaction Arena experience is tailored specificlly for use with the Oculus Quest. There’s no need for extra equipment such as wires, or PC backpacks. The game is controlled by an operator who track player movements and objectives via a smart tablet. Players not in the game can watch the battle in real-time on their own tablet, smartphone, smart TV.
Much like fellow location-based VR provider The Void, Cyberaction Arena has players interacting with real objects while in-game. Oculus Touch controllers mounted to custom weapon peripherals add an extra level of realism to the experience. You can also choose to just use the Quest controllers. Each weapon was developed by VIRTUACTIONS specifically for Cyberaction Arena, ensuring that you have the most realistic VR experience possible when you’re battling your opponents.

Players have two different game modes to choose from. Team Mode offers your standard Team Deathmatch experience. Teams duke it out in a VR battlefield until only one is left standing. After a few rounds, each players’ kills are tallied up and the team with the highest combined score, wins.
Random Mode, on the other hand, creates teams out of the number of players currently available. Like Team Mode, the team with the highest combined score at the end of the game wins. The one difference is if you’re knocked out of the game, you can respawn back into the fight by making your way to a special location on the arena floor.
