Luke Ross, the creator behind popular VR mods for games like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, is bringing his talents to the world of Cyberpunk 2077. First reported by PC Gamer, Ross is currently in development of a new mod that will introduce full VR support to CD Projekt Red’s ambitious open-world RPG.

When asked via a poll what game he should mod next, the community overwhelmingly chose Cyberpunk 2077. PC Gamer followed up with Ross, who confirmed that a VR mod for the game is currently in the works. Not only that, but VR support should be available as early as next month. “If nothing goes wrong, I’d say it should come out in January”, said Ross to PC Gamers’ Robert Zak.

According to Ross, the development process has been similar to that of other games he’s modded and that Cyberpunk’s REDengine4 works about as well as other game engines in terms of VR support. “One major bonus about CP2077 is that it’s already played in first person, which is very good for VR immersiveness, unlike for example the Mafia Trilogy where I had to implement my own ‘fake-first-person’ camera,” said Ross to PC Gamer.

As previously stated, Ross is the mastermind behind some of the most popular VR mods currently in circulation, including Red Dead Redemption 2, the Mafia Trilogy, and the R.E.A.L. VR mods for GTA V.

Cyberpunk 2077 launched almost a year ago on consoles and PC and was met with immediate scrutiny thanks to a liteny of bugs. Since then the game has received numerous patches that improve its overall quality. Here’s hoping the current state is stable enough for VR integration.
