Summary

Assassin’s Creed, Warhammer VR, Jurassic Park, oh my!
There was no shortage of game announcements at today’s Facebook Connect developer conference. From Assassins Creed to Beat Saber, we have plenty of VR gaming to look forward to over the coming months. So much in fact that we felt it necessary to collect every major game announcement made during yesterday’s conference:

BEAT SABER MULTIPLAYER – November 2020

Beginning next month, players can test their skills against both friends as well as strangers in 5v5 multiplayer matches. According to Facebook, players will be able to select from a variety of new in-game avatars and join a private or random lobby where they can slice bricks side-by-side with five other players in real-time.

WARHAMMER 40K: BATTLE SISTER – Holiday 2020

The Warhammer universe is heading to Oculus VR, bringing with it all the over-the-top violence you know and love. Warhammer 40,000: Battle Sister will have you battling alongside your fellow warrior sisters as you engage in a long and bloody campaign against the forces of chaos. You’ll find no shortage of guns and gore in this upcoming VR shooter.

POPULATION ONE – Holiday 2020

Centered around a unique vertical combat system that allows you to climb any in-game object, Population: One is an upcoming VR battle royale experience in which your movement is just as important as your gunplay. As previously stated, you’ll have the ability to not only climb and scale objects, but run, jump, vault, and wingsuit fly throughout your environment. Compared to other, more serious, VR battle royale games, Population One appears to be going for a more comedic feel à la Fortnite.

STAR WARS: TALES FROM THE GALAXY’S EDGE – Holiday 2020

Star Wars Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge takes place on the planet of Batuu after the events of 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Players take on the role of a lowly repair technician who, after crash-landing on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost as a result of a pirate attack, find themselves going toe-to-toe with the ruthless Guavian Death Gang and its leader Tara Rashin. According to developer ILMxLAB, Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge will feature numerous activities to complete.

ASSASSIN’s CREED & SPLINTER CELL – TBD

After months of rumors, Ubisoft today confirmed the development of two VR games based on the historic Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell franchises. While information is scarce at the moment, Ubisoft confirms that both titles are being built from the ground up for VR and will launch exclusively on Oculus headsets. The games are being developed by Ubisoft’s Red Storm alongside Ubisoft Reflections, Ubisoft Dusseldorf, and Ubisoft Mumbai.

CLIMB 2 – Holiday 2020

A direct sequel to the 2016 original, The Climb 2 will have you exploring the world as you scale massive, vertigo-inducing structures guaranteed to leave your palms sweaty. While little information is available at the moment, the new trailer shows several jaw-dropping environments, including an urban cityscape.

JURASSIC WORLD AFTERMATH – December 17th, 2020

Don’t let the vicious velociraptors fool you, according to developer Coatsink, Jurassic World Aftermath is actually a puzzle-solving experience. Set on the legendary Isla Nublar, the very same location featured in the original films, this intense VR adventure will have you hiding from dangerous dinos and solving complex puzzles as you explore the “abandoned” remains of Jurassic Park.

PISTOL WHIP 2089 – Holiday 2020

Are you one of the six players who wish the original Pistol Whip featured its own single-player campaign? No? Well too bad, because you’re getting one anyway. Arriving this holiday, Pistol Whip 2089 features a five-chapter cinematic campaign set to the smooth sounds of a brand new catalog of synth-wave artists. We’re beyond excited to check out the new music, new enemies, and new environments of Pistol Whip 2089 when it launches later this year.

THE WALKING DEAD: SAINTS & SINNERS – October 13th, 2020

Skydance Interactive’s The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners offers players a rich, complex RPG experience during which they’ll go head-to-head with not only walkers, but other humans as well. You can take on a variety of missions, team-up with — or takedown — warring factions, craft unique weapons and tools, and battle waves of flesh-hungry undead using a unique physics-based combat system.

SNIPER ELITE VR – TBD

Originally released on the PSVR, Rebellion Developments VR adaption of the beloved sniping simulator will soon arrive on the Quest 2, allowing players the chance to target specific body parts from incredible distances. This Quest 2 release will feature the full campaign as well as the instantly-recognizable x-ray kill cam.

MYST – December 2020

Arguably one of the most infamous mystery franchises in video game history, Myst will soon bring its legendary puzzles to the Oculus Quest 2, offering a whole new generation of gamers the chance to experience the classic adventure. If this is anything like the original than we can expect plenty of intrique as we explore this mysterious, secret-ridden island.

SPACE CHANNEL 5 VR: KINDA FUNKY NEWS FLASH!October 13th, 2020

VR’s weirdest game is heading to Quest 2! Originally released on the PSVR back in February, this VR adaptation of Sega’s legendary rhythm game will have you striking poses to the beat of an infectious soundtrack as you stop an army of alien invaders from conquering Earth. The better you dance, the higher your viewer count.

REZ INFINITE – October 13th, 2020

A standalone VR adaptation of the critically-acclaimed action shooter, Rez Infinite puts you face-to-face with waves of polygonal enemies and transforming bosses as you shoot your way through a chaotic Tron-like gauntlet. As you fight your way through each level, everything from the environment to the enemies will pulse to the beat of a thumping techno soundtrack.

KIZUNA AI TOUCH THE BEAT – October 13th, 2020

LITTLE WITCH ACADEMIA VR – October 13th, 2020

Studio Trigger’s beautifully animated and at times surprisingly dark manga-turned-anime Little Witch Academia is receiving its own VR spin-off entitled Little Witch Academia VR: Broom Racing, a magical VR racing experience that allows players to go head-to-head against friends and strangers across a variety of whimsical locations scattered throughout the grounds of the Luna Nova Magical Academy.

PUZZLE BOBBLE VR: VACATION ODYSSEY – TBD

A VR adaptation of the classic Japanese arcade game, Puzzle Bobble VR: Vacation Odyssey is a nostalgia-fueled joyride that will have you catapulting colorful orbs for hours in the hopes of building ridiculous combos. If this VR adaptation is even half as addictive as the original, we could be looking at one of the best VR puzzle games of the year.

ALTDEUS: BEYOND CHRONOS – December 3rd, 2020

A direct sequel to 2019’s Tokyo Chronos, ALTDEUS: Beyond Chronos takes place 300 years after the original in post-apocalyptic Tokyo. This interactive visual novel has you following a supersoldier named Chloe as she fights to protect the remains of humanity. There’s more interactivity, more action, and—of course—plenty of drama.
