Summary

US retailers like Crate & Barrel and Walmart are already onboard.
Pinterest this week announced that it has expanded its AR Try On feature to include home decor from select US retailers. Using a compatible iOS or Android device, you can now choose from a catalog of virtual furniture and place a true-to-scale digital replica in your rea-world space.
Pinterest first introduced its AR Try On feature last year. Back then the company focused its attention on the beauty market by allowing users to try on various lipsticks and eye shadows. Since then the company has remained cautious about its AR offerings, which makes today’s announcement all the more exciting.

Starting now you can access a catalog of digital furniture from US retailers like Crate & Barrel, CB2, Walmart, West Elm, and Wayfair to place throughout your personal space using the awesome power of AR. Powered by Lens, virtual home decor is going live across 80,000 shoppable Pins; 66,000 more than the original lipstick and eyeshadow Try Ons.
Here’s how to get started:
  • Open the Pintrest app on your iOS or Android device and begin browsing home decor products.
  • Look for three dots located in the top right corner to determine if a Pin is “Try On enabled.”
  • Select the “Try in your space” option and adjust the virtual furniture within your real-world space.
  • Click the Pin to access the checkout page and purchase the real-world product.
“Customers look to Crate & Barrel and CB2 to find unique pieces, built to last a lifetime. We understand that the path to purchase is not always linear, especially when it comes to furniture,” said Joan King, SVP, eCommerce & International Operations for Crate & Barrel and CB2. “Pinterest’s Try On For Home Décor tool, is one of many examples of how our brands are exploring innovative solutions to make this journey as intuitive as possible by bridging the gap between virtual commerce and reality.”
