Summary

The free update will be available in two parts beginning with six new levels.
The Climb 2 officially launched on the Oculus Quest and Quest 2 last month, offering new locales, more difficult climbs, and other stellar improvements.
During today’s first-ever Oculus Gaming Showcase, it was announced that Crytek’s new and improved VR climbing experience is receiving a brand new expansion pack designed to keep even the most skilled climbers on their toes.
Free to all existing owners, the Freestyle expansion pack will feature solo climbing, puzzles, as well as additional climbing challenges, such as not using chalking up your hands during a climb. While that may not sound like a particularly difficult challenge, those who’ve played The Climb will tell you just how dangerous bare hands can be.
The Freestyle Expansion Pack also appears to be pulling inspiration from games like Beat Saber, Audio Trip VR, and Supernatural with a cool rhythm-based climbing challenge that has you climbing to the beat of an adrenaline-pumping soundtrack.

A recent Oculus Blog post mentions this new game mode, saying “We’re also introducing rhythm-based climbing where you’ll see disappearing grips along your route, requiring you to learn the grip patterns to the beat of a background track to progress through.”
Unlike the actual game where you’re climbing in scenic locations, the Expansion Pack will look more like an Olympic venue where you can challenge your climbing skills in both “casual” and “professional” mode. But no matter which path you take, be prepared to work up a sweat.

The Climb 2 will be launching its Freestyle Expansion Pack in two phases, with six levels being released tomorrow and the remaining six at a later date.
