Summary

Let’s be clear. I’m a huge fan of all things XR (Extended Reality). Bias confirmed.
I’ve led multiple VR (virtual reality) projects for the Department of Defense, specifically for mission rehearsal of fighter jets and other aircraft.
I’ve created and licensed mobile-based AR (augmented reality) projects for weddings and restaurants.
I’ve also ideated and strategized MR (mixed reality) healthcare training apps, including a project called HoloScenarios that was named the Best Invention of 2022 by Time Magazine.
I also hold a patent for Mixed Reality training that I’m not legally allowed to discuss exactly how it is being used!
In my line of work, I meet plenty of people who think XR (Extended Reality) tech is all flash, no substance. They see it as a cool, but unnecessary, waste of energy.
In my opinion, they’re in excellent company… who thought the internet, the touch screen, and the smartwatch wouldn’t ever catch on.
But I also encounter people that heavily favor just ONE aspect of XR — either virtual, augmented, or mixed reality. And I’ve got to be honest: I think that’s nearly just as misguided.
AR, MR, and VR are all fantastic technologies, and they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Each is positioned to serve its specific niche area in a way that only it can.

Understanding and referencing that Venn Diagram will save you a huge headache when choosing between AR, VR, or MR.
To be VERY clear… there is money to be made using each one! The question is just which one best suits your goals.
