THE BIG STORY
Apple may acquire NextVR. Continuing Apple’s spending spree, the immersive broadcasting platform may join the big tech firm as it continues to build out its capabilities.
If confirmed, the move makes sense. NextVR has been expanding quickly since the mid-2010s, collecting contracts with the likes of the NBA. (NBA extended their contract with NextVR in late 2019, which indicates some level of satisfaction with their services). Where would this fit with Apple’s plan for their AR glasses, or their streaming services? Time will tell, but they now have the very best expertise on their team.

FINAL WORD
Well, two final words this time. The first is that I’ve written a piece for IBS365 on the tech behind live broadcasting platforms. It’s my first ever commissioned piece, and it was a lot of fun to write, and I hope it does the area justice.
The second is a spike in my search traffic. Since the lockdown, I’ve seen an uptick in the number of people finding my site via Google, when people are searching for ‘Is VR worth it?’ This tells me that boredom and interest has led to people exploring new options for home entertainment. Interest in immersive still climbs.
