On Tuesday October 25, the first-ever Metaverse Spectrum Business Conference was held within the Meetaverse app, and it went off without a hitch!

Specifically catering to the needs of B2B business, there were:

The format included panel discussions, Q&A, interactive exhibitor booths. The booths were easy to navigate in 3D space within the Chrome web browser. Participants could engage in 1:1 or small group video chat with each other as well as text chat — either 1:1, grouped by stages, or with everyone at the event.

I had the honor of hosting the product spotlight on the main stage which featured 6 cool apps and service providers:

I also hosted a break time networking session at Pearl’s Place.

And finally, I hosted an interview and Q&A discussion with the founders of MetaMetaverse, a new platform for metaverse creation:

My reflections: as an event emcee / host, something I really liked about the Meetaverse app was the backstage area, which meant we could tech check every presenter before they went on, and also had time to make a bit of small talk and get to know each other a little before “stepping” on stage — much like a real green room! This helped reduce some of the tech risk normally inherent in virtual events. The AllSeated / Meetaverse team did a great job providing event support especially in these backstage zones.

Something I wished I’d had as a presenter was a better way to see reactions and the audience while I was onstage. It was difficult to gauge how many people were in the crowd unless you were also in the audience. As a participant, I also would have liked to be able to “bump” into people more spontaneously — including strangers — but with video calls being push-to-talk, these interactions had to be consciously created, and required a bit of extroversion.

Overall, the event was a joy to attend and be a part of, and I personally have lots of new ideas and a few new connections to people doing amazing work in the metaverse.

This conference was organized by The Metaverse Spectrum and its partners with support from the fabulous team at AllSeated (Meetaverse). With such a successful first year, they are planning to make this an annual event.
