Are you tired of your regular coding job and wish to do something new and exciting? Today I enlist some areas of Computer Science which will be good to consider in case you are changing your jobs or entering the job market.

Big Data

As Andrew McAfee puts it “The world is one big data problem.” The field of big data is a promising one. Google processes 24 petabytes of data every day. On average 2.5 exabytes of data is generated daily. I think these figures are enough to give you an idea about the future prospects of this field. If that wasn’t enough with big data, traditional methods such as regression and classification techniques will become invalid and unstable for analysis.

Augmented Reality

If you were astonished by the development of Virtual Reality get ready to be amazed again. Augmented Reality doesn’t even require a virtual environment to be set up. It instead sets up computer-generated images in the real environment. No wonder Pokémon Go was such a hit. Goldman Sachs is betting on the virtual and augmented reality industry to become an $80 billion market by 2025 — it’s around $7 billion right now. Major upgrades will come to technology infrastructure and an ecosystem of apps will form for consumers and enterprises alike.

Ethical Hacking and Cyber Security

With an ever-increasing number of things getting connected to the internet, there is an increase in the demand of cybersecurity professionals, as almost anything which gets connected to the internet can be hacked. This field can even make you a hero by helping police find out cybercriminals.

Business Analytics

More and more business owners now want analytical solutions to their business problems. Business Analysts are expected to have some knowledge of management strategies as well apart from good command over operation research and machine learning techniques.

Cloud Computing

Who needs a server when you can store your data over the cloud. Traditional server services are soon to become obsolete since companies are now storing data over the cloud. This makes it easier to process data. Also, we can retrieve our data from anywhere with the help of any device that can connect to the internet. Thus, in the future, every company will require a cloud architect to take care of their needs.

Blockchain

Blockchain is best known in the context of virtual currency Bitcoin, but a recent report showed 64 different use cases of blockchain across 200 companies. Streamlined, secure contracting and transacting will drive commercial use. Another application of Blockchain is in the field of peer 2 peer energy transfer. India is a country that houses 2 of the world’s three largest solar energy farms. We can use blockchains to sell the excess solar energy to countries deficient in sunlight.

3D printing

3D printing could enable unprecedented levels of mass customization and dramatically reduce the cost of supply chains generating an estimated economic impact of $230 to $550 billion annually by 2025.

That is all for this article, will add some more as I learn about new technologies. Also, this article discussed these ideas in layman terms. I will write more detailed articles on each of these fields. Till then take care and keep reading.
